Welcome New Members of JSP's Board of Directors

Josephine Sculpture Park’s Board of Directors volunteers their time and talents to further our mission to connect people to each other and nature through the arts. With diverse skills, experiences and backgrounds, they bring a wealth of knowledge and passion to the park and the community we serve. Please join us in welcoming the newest members of our board - Donald Kleier, Rebecca Norton, and Joanne Price.

Donald Kleier and his wife Betty Barr are long-time supporters and friends of the park. Their professional life in dentistry led them to Denver, Colorado and after retirement, they relocated back to Betty’s hometown of Frankfort. Don shares that his time out west grew in him an appreciation for open space, public land and outdoor recreation. He says, “It is fitting to support JSP as a place where private land has become public for all to enjoy as well as a repository for large scale art.”

Don shares this perspective on what makes the park an important cause in his life: “JSP honors the natural world through its care of the land and the species who inhabit it and the art that adorns it. What we sustain sustains us, and art is one means to unite the natural and human worlds.”

Rebecca Norton is an artist, curator, and educator who discovered the joys of JSP during the pandemic, when she began bringing her children to the park. Rebecca is co-founder and program director of Maybe It's Fate, an arts and culture establishment and for-profit member-based artist cooperative based in Louisville. She received her BFA from the University of Louisville in 2004 and her MFA from the Art Center College of Design in 2010.

Rebecca shares more about her art background. “Primarily identifying as a painter, my practice to date includes a range of materials and technology. My work is informed by a robust intrigue with color theory, a love of geometry, and an endless curiosity concerning structures of perception and the nature thereof.” Rebecca's exhibition experience and organizational leadership are great additions to the board.

Joanne Price's support of the park goes back nearly as far as the park’s history. You may recognize her exquisite work from the park’s bookmarks and engraved prints, or her illustrations for notable Kentucky authors. Joanne is a print and book artist living in rural Kentucky with an interest in nature and conservation. She teaches workshops all over the country and has been re-wilding her 5 rural acres in Shelby county.

Her decision to relocate here from Minnesota in 2012 was influenced by the presence of Josephine Sculpture Park, a sign of the creative community that she and her husband Dan were seeking. Through their enterprises, Starpointe Studio and Starpointe Astronomy, they’ve both presented workshops at the park. Joanne says she “feels honored to have forged relationships between nature and art with some of Kentucky’s best nature and conservation organizations including Josephine Sculpture Park.”

Thank you, Don, Rebecca and Joanne, for sharing your skills and leadership with us. And thank you to our continuing board members who join them in renewing their dedication to the success of the park.
