Students Explore New Artforms at JSP

Art students from University of Louisville's Hite Institute of Art & Design, Franklin County High School, and Western Hills High School explore new artforms during JSP field trips in October 2024

Franklin County High School advanced art students explored plein air painting during their recent self-guided field trip to Josephine Sculpture Park (JSP). Art teacher Jody Jaques shared that she is grateful for JSP, as it is one of the few field trip sites she can bring her students for free.

JSP welcomed the University of Louisville's Hite Institute of Art & Design for a novel artmaking experience this fall! Professor Mary Carothers assigned her Installation Art class students to paint original works on GRAPHOLOGYHENGE by Peyton Scott Russell. Mary shared with JSP staff, “Thanks so much for inviting us to experiment and play. We had a super fun time.” Visit the park soon to see all of their wonderful pieces, like Self Portrait at 23 by Emma Harvey, and add a work of your own!

Art students at Western Hills High School enjoyed a guided park tour, painting on GRAPHOLOGYHENGE by Peyton Scott Russell, and a picnic lunch in the sun on their recent field trip. Teacher Jan Kirstein reflected, "We really enjoyed the tour guide and informational lecture. It made the trip so much more meaningful. [JSP has] the best thing going for hands-on art I have ever experienced!" Students are pictured exploring former artist-in-residence Lucy Azubuike's sculpture, Me in Me Sanctuary, with Mollie Rabiner, JSP Park Manager and exhibiting artist.

Join the fun! We love welcoming groups of all ages for hands-on arts and nature experiences. Request your group field trip to JSP today, and our staff will be in touch to customize your visit.
