Artist Statement

My art has evolved into 3-dimensional displays. They are modular, combining in ways to convey color and form. The modules are based on stacked cubes and can be aligned in a variety of ways: fitted in groups or separated, tilted at angles or upright, side to side or into an architecture. The completed sculptures are displayed on aluminum platforms, either circular or rectangular. Each sculpture conveys a moment for the viewer: maybe fascination, possibly contemplation, or just a quietness. “For the sake of a single verse…” from a Rilke writing describes each work of art, like crystals that form over long periods of time when discovered by a passerby.

Color and Form
Statement

The sculpture “Color and Form” has 6 modules (2 pairs of 3) on a polished mosaic platform. Each module is composed of a stack of 3 cubes with the 3rd cube offset to form a step. The variation of the 3rd cube creates a variety of ways to join the modules. Using color facilitates many new combinations. These modules, called L-Blocks, provide a unique means of artistic expression.

The sculpture has a modular structure on a mosaic platform. The modules are grouped in two pairs of three, one group of primary colors (blue, red, yellow) and the other of non-colors (black, gray, white).  My intent is to provide a focus for how we perceive our environment.
