Clarity Vehicle Restoration Unveiled

JSP commemorated a milestone anniversary with the restoration of Clarity Vehicle by Mollie Rabiner, one of the first artworks installed on-site fifteen years ago.

JSP celebrated its fifteenth anniversary in September 2024. Director Melanie VanHouten founded the park in 2009 with 16 sculptures on ten acres with the help of a passionate grassroots community. Fifteen years later, the park has grown to include more than 70 sculptures on forty acres with a focus on land conservation, plus a robust Art in Public Places initiative that brings more than twenty sculptures to the city of Frankfort. Together, these programs serve 130,000 people annually with arts and nature experiences.

JSP commemorated the milestone anniversary with the restoration of Clarity Vehicle by Mollie Rabiner, one of the first artworks installed on-site fifteen years ago. This restoration is made possible by those who generously donated to the Scot Walters Sculpture Fund, with additional support from Epic Coatings.

The Scot Walters Sculpture Fund enables JSP to install new artworks at the park and to conserve beloved sculptures on exhibition. Because the sculptures at JSP are interactive and invite participation, they occasionally need restoration. After fifteen years of engagement with the public, Clarity Vehicle received new paint and acrylic panels to bring back its vibrancy and encourage more play and participation for years to come.

The Scot Walters Sculpture Fund was established in 2017 to honor the life of Mr. Walters, who was an avid sculpture enthusiast and involved member of the community. He retired from the Kentucky Heritage Council/State Historic Preservation Office in 2016 after 20 years with the agency.

Family and friends of Scot Walters, along with supporters of the Scot Walters Sculpture Fund and JSP donors, were invited to an intimate gathering to commemorate the 15th anniversary of JSP and the unveiling of the newly restored Clarity Vehicle. Director Melanie VanHouten shared memories of both Mr. Walters and artist Mollie Rabiner, current Park Manager, who also spoke at the event. All in attendance shared a toast to the sculpture, the artist, Mr. Walters, JSP donors, and the future of Josephine Sculpture Park.

Clarity Vehicle is on view at JSP in the Firefly Forest area behind the Art Barn. You can also join JSP in celebrating 15 years on December 8 at Joy Full, an annual family-friendly gratitude gathering. To support the installation and preservation of art at JSP, please consider making a contribution to the Scot Walters Sculpture Fund.
