Mother and Daughter Statement

My sculpture titled “Mother and Daughter” is meant to portray an intergenerational relationship in a way that is both descriptive and iconic, and will provide opportunity for interaction. The family oriented sculpture is meant to depict a feeling of joyful dynamic interaction and a bond of positive nature. I have chosen to work with figurative elements translated into abstract forms to emphasize motion. The use of these curvilinear shapes allows flexibility in creating a composition that includes both positive and negative shapes and space. The sculpture is designed for a public setting with safety and stability in mind. • All edges are rounded. • The base is designed to support the sculpture and may contain ballast to stabilize the weight of the sculpture. • The sculpture is made of structural aluminum with stainless steel fasteners and built to resist adverse weather conditions. • All sections are reinforced double wall construction and mig welded. • Approximate dimensions of the finished sculpture: 9’H x 7’W x 5’D In constructing the full scale sculpture, additional structural elements may be added to insure stability in response to wind and outside forces that may be present.
