Artist Statement

Spanning a career of 40 years, Don Lawler has created stone sculptures on a full-time professional basis for public and private outdoor sites. His primary focus is to bring delight to the child inside all of us. Each sculpture has a reason for being – it has a story to tell, usually bearing an educational aspect. Don creates contemporary sculptures that focus on the Positive.  Common themes include spiritual concerns, the goal of self actualization and the potential of daily self renewal. He tries to spark the imagination by maintaining a focus on Creativity. Monumental scale creations in stone are the outlet for this artist’s efforts. Stone is the world’s oldest surviving medium of artistic expression; it is shared in common by every human culture. The artist hopes to create sculptures that will endure for ages; speaking to everyone in the universal language of concept, design and craftsmanship.

Star Seed Statement

This sculpture represents our world as it sails through the firmament of stars. The base symbolizes our Sun; it is a reminder that each time we circle it, another year has passed – every ending is a new beginning.

Determination Statement

This functional sculpture shows a sprout as it finds itself between a rock and a hard place… As it grows, it overcomes the obstacles in its way. This is a metaphor for the Human struggle – nothing is easy.
