JSP week-long Juneteenth Celebration: Heather Hart (NYC)

Juneteenth Celebration
We celebrate Juneteenth this week with NY-based artist Heather Hart, JSP 2021 Artist in Residence!
Heather Hart’s sculpture, The Southern Oracle: We Will Tear the Roof Off the Mother, at North Carolina Museum of Art explored liminal space and power. This is documentation of Duke University’s Thomas DeFrantz and SLIPPAGE, activating the sculpture with a piece they choreographed for the space, We Will Dance the Roof Off the Mother, performed on Sept 22, 2019. Focus on Race Relations (FORR) and Josephine Sculpture Park (JSP) partner this week to celebrate Juneteenth, the nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. We encourage others to post throughout this week leading up to Juneteenth (June 19) using #juneteenthky. This week, JSP and FORR will elevate black and African American voices and art, share anti-racism resources and discourse, and host a roundtable to discuss local race issues and solutions in Frankfort/Franklin County, KY.
