Workshop: Drawn from Life Botanical Letters with Laura Poulette

April 13, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Spend the day with Kentucky artist and maker, Laura Poulette, at Josephine Sculpture Park, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creative community experiences with 30 acres of native meadows, walking trails and public art in Frankfort, KY. With Laura’s guidance, you will explore the meadows, identify and collect plants, then return to the Art Barn to dive into drawing and the basics of watercolors.

All you need to bring is a spirit of playful exploration and discovery. No prior drawing experience necessary. This class is appropriate for participants age 16+.

The workshop will be from 9am to 4pm, with a 1-hour lunch break from noon to 1pm. We encourage you to pack a lunch; there are plenty of beautiful picnic spots at the park! There are also a few restaurants nearby. When you commit to this workshop, please respect the schedule by arriving on time and being present for all instruction.

Topics will include basics of plant identification, how to “find” letters in plant matter, preserving botanical specimens, overview of Laura’s favorite tools and materials, tips and tricks to draw plants, and a brief introduction to basic watercolors.

Included in the fee is 6 hours of personalized instruction from a renowned KY artist, use of tools and materials, plant specimens to take home and handouts.¬†You’ll also have the opportunity to purchase drawing tools and materials, as well as shop Laura’s collection of original art and prints.
