Night Sky Tour: Preserving the Night & New Horizons

April 6, 2019 @ 8:00 pm - 11:30 pm

The Night Sky Tour includes multimedia presentations in the Art Barn that explores preserving the night sky, starting at 8pm. Observation begins at 9pm. Explore the night sky with expert guidance from Dan Price, NASA Solar System Ambassador, outside through our large telescopes. You may even capture a photo of the moon through a telescope on your smartphone! This Night Sky Tour topic is coordinated in partnership with the Frankfort Audubon Chapter.

There’s no need to register, just come on out. Want to learn more about your own telescope, bring it out! All ages welcome; children must be accompanied by an adult. You may come and go anytime between 8pm-11:30pm.

Suggested $10 donation per group or couple.

From Frankfort Audubon: Many of us remember seeing Earth’s galaxy from our backyards, but not anymore. Light pollution has ruined dark skies and only the brightest stars are now visible. According to the International Dark Sky Association, “Every year millions of birds die colliding with needlessly illuminated buildings….Artificial lights can cause them to migrate too early or too late and miss ideal climate conditions for nesting, foraging and other behaviors.” http://www.darksky.org/light-pollution/wildlife/

JSP is now part of the NASA Museum Alliance! More dates to be scheduled throughout the year.
