We invite you and your students to visit JSP, Kentucky’s only sculpture park, during your next field trip to explore art and the environment. JSP is a not-for-profit 30-acre sculpture park with over 70 public art installations dedicated to providing community arts education and creative experiences while conserving Kentucky’s native, rural landscape. JSP is open to the public for free 365 days per year, from dawn to dusk.
JSP’s staff of experienced educators is proud to offer arts and environmental education experiences for Kentucky’s public and private school students. Our school educational programs align with Kentucky Academic Standards in Science and Arts and Humanities. Our programs often integrate state Language Arts and Math standards, as well. Your field trip to Josephine Sculpture Park can be structured in the following ways:
Lunch Stop & Outdoor Exploration: Free
JSP is located right off of Highway 127 and minutes from I-64. We are the perfect lunch or break spot for your school while they are on the road. Students can enjoy a picnic and relax at one of our 14 outdoor tables and shaded grassy areas. Also, students can explore 30 acres of mowed paths dotted with over 70 public art installations. Come explore art and the environment at JSP to refuel during your next field trip! Please contact us to let us know when to expect you to ensure that there is no schedule conflict with other JSP events.
Self-Guided Tour: Free
Grab a park map and a sketchbook or scavenger hunt from the park Visitor’s Center to explore JSP’s 30 acres of walking paths and over 70 public art installations. Please contact us to let us know when to expect you to ensure that there is no schedule conflict with other JSP events.
JSP Staff-Guided Tour: $5 per student
JSP staff can guide students through the park with a focus on the topic of your choice. Some examples include sculpture, land management, plant and tree identification and nature meditation. $5 per person. Please contact us to schedule your tour at least 2 weeks before your visit.
Teacher-Guided Activity: Free
We can create standard-aligned lessons that you can conduct with your students at the park, without our staff’s assistance, the day of the field trip. Materials costs are the school’s responsibility. Please contact us to coordinate your activity at least 1 month before your visit.
JSP Staff-Guided Activity: Cost Negotiable
For a fee, JSP staff and guest artists can create and facilitate a customized activity with your students during their field trip to the park. The fee depends on the materials required, the length of the activity, the number of students and your budget. We can also suggest pre- and/or post-lessons to conduct in your classroom to maximize your experience at JSP. Please contact us to coordinate your activity at least 1 month before your visit.
Funding Assistance: Every August, the Kentucky Arts Council offers “TranspARTation Grants” to help cover transportation costs during arts-related field trips. If you are interested in applying for this grant to visit JSP, please contact us.
