“Art For Everybody” JSP feature article in Smiley Pete Publishing
JSP is excited to be featured in the latest issue of the Chevy Chaser, part of the Smiley Pete family of Kentucky publications. An interview with Melanie VanHouten, founding director of JSP, shares her inspiration for creating Kentucky’s only sculpture park on farmland that belonged to her grandparents. “Most of my childhood memories are out in this place and on this property,” she shared with reporter Saraya Brewer.
Established in 2009, Josephine Sculpture Park has evolved over the past 12 years from a modest sculpture garden with about a dozen artworks into an expansive oasis for exploration. “The mission from the beginning has been to connect people to each other and the land through the arts,” Melanie explained. “Art, the environment and the community – all three are pretty significant and equally important in terms of who we are and who we want to be.”
