William Vannerson

ABOUT THE ARTIST

William Vannerson is a sheet metal sculptor from Pensacola, FL and recently completed his graduate studies at the University of Kansas. He was introduced to welded steel, as well as cast iron, sculpture by Charles Hook at Florida State University. In his work he seeks to strike new accords between ever-evolving formal sensibilities and constant intellectual and ideological inquiry. Vannerson draws visual inspiration from the hardware of the military-industrial complex and the peculiarly American aesthetic of metal hulks aging in the landscape. Sirius, like many other works, examines that most primal human response of finding something otherworldly—definitively inhuman, but nevertheless there—in one’s mundane surroundings.
