Founding director and sculptor, Melanie VanHouten, established the 501(c)3 nonprofit Josephine Sculpture Park (JSP) in 2009 on land that was her grandparent’s farm. JSP is a donor-supported public park that features over 70 artworks along 2 miles of mowed trails across 40 acres of native meadows, fields, and forests. The park is FREE and open every day from dawn to dusk. It is Kentucky's only sculpture park.
is to connect people to each other and the land through the arts. The Park provides creative arts and nature education to the community and transformative opportunities to artists while conserving the beauty of Kentucky’s native, rural landscape.
is to be a leader in our community that respects and reflects diverse voices and ideas through shared, creative experiences and responsible land stewardship practices.
The staff and board are committed to advancing social justice and cultural equity. JSP is a space where everyone should feel safe and welcome, and a space to play, create, grow, and heal together.
Updated July 12, 2022
We, the Board of Directors and staff of Josephine Sculpture Park (JSP), envision the park as a space to play, create, grow, and heal together. We believe that access to the arts, culture, and nature builds and improves communities. We work to ensure that JSP is safe and welcoming to all visitors.
We commit to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA). We define diversity in its broadest sense and welcome everyone, including but not limited to people of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, gender expressions, sexual orientations, abilities, ages, national origins, socioeconomic status, marital or parental status, and religious affiliations. We are constantly learning how to best reflect and serve our community, and understand this work is evolving and never ending.
At the same time, we recognize the need to specify our current DEIA efforts. As such, JSP's board and staff are working with DEIA consultants and stakeholders in a multi-year process to educate ourselves, solidify an official DEIA statement, and identify areas to change within our organization.
